The Poster

The Poster
For my poster I wanted to show how Maori TV was adding value to Te Reo Maori by being one of the many things that help to keep it going. I wanted to keep it simple and not too busy, and so the audience would see it and then straight away know what it is about. I used the red, white and black colours, because these colours are used a lot to represent Maori like how they are used in the Tino Rangatiratanga flag.  I also used a tree to represent the language and how we need to keep it nourished in order for it grow.  The sayings in the tree are Maori sayings about the language and how we should care for it and how it is apart of us so we need to look after it.

The reason why I place the poster on an empty street is because this is what it is actually like at the moment, and although Maori TV are trying to promote the language and the culture, there's no point in doing it if people are not interested.  One thing I feel that is holding the language back is the lack of passion from all New Zealanders, not wanting the language is what will see it gone. Its is a juxtaposition that although it's wonderful what Maori TV are doing, the majority of the nation don't really care, its like its in the backstreets trying to survive.
